Company profile
uRADMonitor is a brand focusing on IoT devices for Air Quality monitoring globally. They started in Romania in 2014, pioneering the world's first Radiation Monitoring network. Their advanced interconnected detectors offer real-time data, and now they operate in 65+ countries, serving individuals, universities, municipalities, and research institutes.
Problem Statement
The company has been utilizing LoRaWAN® since 2016 and even achieved a 41 km direct link from one Greek island to another during the development period, enabling their devices to broadcast sensor data from remote locations. However, the modules they were using back then were not user-friendly and presented challenges. Moreover, obtaining reasonably priced gateways for testing was almost impossible. The visionaries at uRADMonitor wanted to scale up their LoRaWAN capabilities for the planetary environmental monitoring network, as they needed to install thousands of sensors worldwide and monitor parameters related to human health 24/7. The global expansion of the network posed a real challenge.

Solution
To overcome their challenges, uRADMonitor discovered RAK, which offered modules that allowed them to configure the devices even when deployed in different regions with just one command –– eliminating the need for different modules for different regions as they had done before, and streamlining the firmware update process. Additionally, the group found RAK's gateways to be both effective and affordable, leading them to continue using them ever since.
The heart of the Environmental Monitor A3 node they developed for this project is powered by RAK technology, and it boasts the following features:
- Measures 11 environmental parameters
- Can be connected through 4 methods: Ethernet, Wi-Fi, GSM, and LoRaWAN
- Direct access to data and programmatic access through Cloud / API
- Operates with low energy consumption
- Compact size measuring 110x65x25 mm
As the network, monitoring points, and demand continue to grow, uRADMonitor remains committed to developing new hardware and incorporating new tech from RAK. Simultaneously, LoRaWAN remains a critical component of their development process. uRADMonitor is driven by the mission to build something that matters and has a positive impact on the lives of many.
Outcome
The ultimate goal of uRADMonitor is the planetary environmental monitoring network. Through the installation of thousands of sensors worldwide and nonstop monitoring, they ensure real-time and accurate information about the environment we live in. The company has generated a vast database of measurements since the project's inception, which is expected to contribute to making better decisions about the future. This groundbreaking network is the first of its scale, monitoring air quality, background radiation, radon concentration, ozone, nitrogen dioxide, temperature, and much more.
Indeed, this is the first network of its kind at a planetary level. The brilliant minds at uRADMonitor continue to develop new hardware and incorporate new technologies to meet the growing demands of the project. Throughout this progress, LoRaWAN remains a critical and essential component.
By leveraging RAK's solutions, uRADMonitor has been able to expand its reach and successfully create a robust and comprehensive environmental monitoring network with global impact.
